WE aRE DEFENDERS
OF POTENTIAL
We are on a mission to help every child reach their full potential, through evidence-based one-to-one mentoring relationships.
Creating a Stronger CommunitY
one ChilD At a Time
Since 1964, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region has paired thousands of Bigs and Littles in life-changing one-to-one mentoring relationships.
Behind our passion for helping kids is our focus on the individual child. Every child in our program has asked for that little bit of extra support in achieving their goals, and we are here to empower them.
We are not saviors.
But, we do offer a lifeline of support and guidance, providing evidence-based mentoring and programming for at-risk youth ages 6 to 18.
We believe that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. We recognize that while talent is equally distributed, opportunity is not. So we partner with families, parents/guardians, volunteers and others in the community to hold ourselves accountable for each child in our program.
Building for the Future
Evidence-based, supported mentoring is what makes Big Brothers Big Sisters different from all other organizations.
We are intentional about understanding the needs facing local youth and developing one-to-one programing focused on meeting the needs of our kids.
What’s more, our mentors are never alone. We check in at least once a month, and are always available to brainstorm ideas, to address the occasional complication or even, to just listen.
Our “Bigs” are the secret sauce and the foundation for the transformative experiences our “Littles” are always bragging about.
”Don’t Overthink About What it Takes to Make a Difference in a Kid’s Life.”

Activities can include making dinner together, spending time with the volunteer’s family, home projects, crafting, or homework help.
